Dr. George Dean, owner of the second floor Chess Masterpieces collection, to lecture October 6

If you’ve already visited the World Chess Hall of Fame, you’ve probably been captivated by the gorgeous second-floor exhibition, Chess Masterpieces: Highlights from the Dr. George and Vivian Dean Collection. Regardless of whether or not you’ve gotten a chance to stop by, however, we hope you will join us for a true “insider’s look” at these incredible works.

IncomparableDetail - The Incomparable, China, 1700s. Carved natural and stained ivory.

For 50 years, the Deans have traveled the world, accumulating over 1,000 chess sets in what has become the world’s foremost private collection. On October 6, 2011 Dr. Dean, who has generously loaned some of the most exquisite pieces for this exhibition, will discuss the history of his collection, as well as his experiences and philosophy as a collector.

Following his lecture and a walk-through of the exhibit, Dr. Dean will autograph copies of his book Chess Masterpieces: One Thousand Years of Extraordinary Chess Sets in Q Boutique at the World Chess Hall of Fame.

The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, and take place in the World Chess Hall of Fame’s third floor gallery.

Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge; however, please RSVP to Claire Grothe at or 314-367-9243 ext. 105 to reserve your seat.

We hope to see you there!
